Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Liu Weimin Attends the Commissioning Ceremony of the China-aid Wind Farm Project

On July 14, 2025, the Commissioning Ceremony of the China-aid Wind Farm Project was successfully held in Tongatapu, Tonga. H.E. Ambassador Liu Weimin, HM King Tupou VI, HSH Prince Kalaniuvalu Fotofili, PM Hon. Aisake Eke, Deputy PM Hon. Fusimalohi, Representative of the project contractor, Representatives of the diplomatic missions in Tonga and more than 200 people attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Liu said that China-aid Wind Farm Project represented another milestone of the pragmatic cooperation between China and Tonga in renewable energy, which would continuously contribute to the green energy transition of Tonga. China has always been a staunch advocate for green energy and climate action and is ready to work hand in hand with Tonga to build a more resilient future.

Hon. Aisake Eke, Prime Minister of Tonga, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to China's generous support. He said that the project would benefit every household in Tonga and strongly help to realize Tonga's strategic goal of "100% renewable energy generation by 2035".

After the ceremony, Ambassador Liu accompanied HM King Tupou VI and PM Hon. Aisake Eke to visit the main control room of the project.

The Wind Farm Project has an annual power generation capacity of 3.61 million kWh which accounts for approximately 6% of Tonga's total electricity.
