Rep. Jarrells Announces $18M Investment in Columbus State and Local Community Development Projects

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) Monday announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved nearly $18M in state funding to enhance student success initiatives and support critical improvements to community facilities.

"Every dollar invested in our communities should ultimately improve the lives of the people we serve. These investments strengthen educational opportunities for students at Columbus State while also ensuring that critical public buildings remain safe, functional, and equipped to serve Ohioans for years to come. Whether it is expanding access to technology in the classroom or preserving essential state facilities, this funding reflects our responsibility to build communities where people can learn, work, and thrive with dignity," said Rep. Jarrells.

The items approved were:

  • Item #6: $265K awarded to Columbus State for the purchase of IT equipment in student labs, classrooms, faculty and administrative offices, and common areas.
  • Item #39: $8M awarded to the Department of Administrative Services to cover costs from damages from water pump failure at the Rhodes Tower.
  • Item #41: $9.7M awarded to the Department of Administrative Services for building repairs at the Riffe Center and the North High Complex building.
