Lane and Sidewalk Closure - South Sycamore Avenue

Beginning on Friday, November 6, 2026, the outside northbound lane of South Sycamore Avenue will be closed between East 33rd Street and East Fernwood Drive to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. The east sidewalk along South Sycamore Avenue will also be closed. Pedestrians will be detoured one block to the east.

Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed within one day.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Street Closure - North Tillie Avenue

Beginning on Thursday, November 5, 2026, North Tillie Avenue will be closed between East Paddington Street and North Leucadia Trail.

Austreim Excavating will be working on utilities in the area.

The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of day on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Street Closure - North Dubuque Avenue

North Dubuque Avenue is currently closed between East Madison Street and East Revere Drive to allow for the installation of underground utilities. The work was originally scheduled to be complete in mid-October but has been substantially delayed due to weather.

CMC Excavation and JS Contracting are installing the utilities for this project.

With favorable conditions, this work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day on November 20, 2026.

Veterans Parkway Opening from Cliff Avenue to Sycamore Avenue

On Friday, November 6, 2026, South Veterans Parkway from Cliff Avenue to Sycamore Avenue will open to eastbound and westbound traffic.

This concludes the construction of the second segment of South Veterans Parkway from Cliff Avenue to Sycamore Avenue, which began in March 2025. Construction of the southern portion of Veterans Parkway will occur in segments, with each segment taking about two years to complete. The next segment scheduled for construction is Sycamore Avenue to north of 57th Street, which is planned to begin in Spring 2027.

About South Veterans Parkway

South Veterans Parkway is the remaining 8.7 miles of Veterans Parkway that will connect Interstate 29 to Interstate 90. In 2020, the northern segment of Veterans Parkway opened to traffic and the South Dakota Transportation Commission agreed to complete construction of South Veterans Parkway to accommodate regional and future growth and development.
