8th EISF meeting: EU Industry and Start-ups Forum on STM (EISF) discusses upcoming tendering opportunities to strengthen EU space surveillance ecosystem

On Thursday, DG DEFIS hosted the 8th meeting of the EU Industry and Start-ups Forum on Space Traffic Management (EISF). DG DEFIS and the EU SST Partnership informed some 140 participants from the EU SSA commercial sector on upcoming calls on operational and research activities in the next two years. Participants also learned about an upcoming Luxembourg-sponsored call on the development of advanced commercial SSA services relying on AI technologies, a Position Paper on SSA by the European space industry association ASD-Eurospace, and the results of a consultation on a future SSA marketplace. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on Starlink's plans for SSA services.

Background

The EISF gathers more than 150 members from more than 70 EU companies including start-ups, SMEs, midcaps and major actors. Several Research and Technology Organisations (RTO) established in the EU also participate in the EISF. Together with EU stakeholders, they jointly define research and development priorities which are funded by tendering more than 80% of the available EU SST budget to EU industry.

The EISF helps implement the second avenue on "enhancing EU operational capabilities to support STM" of the Joint Communication on an EU approach to STM.
