Masked ICE Impersonators Emboldened by Extreme Rhetoric from Donald Trump and Christine Drazan

Portland, OR - Earlier this week, a group of armed men wearing masks and posing as ICE agents assaulted and briefly held a victim captive near Woodburn. The behavior mirrors actions taken by actual ICE agents, who have been emboldened by Donald Trump's extremist rhetoric, as well as efforts by Oregon Republicans - including gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan - to support the MAGA agenda that is terrorizing immigrant communities.

Last year, the Trump administration unleashed a campaign of terror, empowering ICE to persecute immigrant communities under a directive called "Operation Black Rose." When Oregonians exercised their first amendment rights by protesting ICE's inhumane methods, Drazan referred to them as "violent mobs and domestic terrorists."

Additionally, during Drazan's time in the Oregon legislature, she established a record of consistently attacking immigrant rights.

• She co-sponsored HB 3551, which would have diverted state resources to help ICE carry out its terror campaign.
• Drazan failed to vote on 11 different bills relating to immigration the last legislative session.
• When she had the chance to oppose masked federal agents acting as secret police, she failed to show up and cast a vote.
• She also voted against four different bills preventing discrimination against individuals based solely on immigration status.

Oregonians deserve to know: will Christine Drazan apologize for the right-wing violence that is being perpetrated as a direct result of the extremist rhetoric used by her and Donald Trump?

"You can draw a clear line from the extremist rhetoric of Republican politicians like Donald Trump and Christine Drazan to the recent attack in Clackamas County," said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. "Right-wing violence will only escalate as long as Republican leaders continue to use their platforms to espouse anti-immigrant hatred. Christine Drazan needs to do the responsible thing and denounce the violent methods being used by ICE and the MAGA extremists who have started to emulate it."
