MoDOT temporarily closes eastbound Interstate 44 St. Clair rest area for restr…

Motorists traveling through the St. Clair area in Franklin County should be aware that the eastbound Interstate 44 rest area is currently closed for restriping until Friday, January 23. All work is weather-dependent.

Crews have begun steps for demolishing the eastbound rest area bathroom building to prepare for the construction of a new bathroom facility.

The rest area will remain open during construction, except from Tuesday, January 13, through Friday, January 23. Note that additional short-term closures may occur in the future to accommodate construction.

During construction, temporary restrooms will be available during the closure of the rest area bathroom buildings. Traffic will be directed to the opposite side of the parking lot, away from the construction of the eastbound building, and the direction of the angled parking spaces will be altered. These changes are in place to create a safe travel environment for the public during this construction.
