Hillsboro is one of Oregon's most diverse and dynamic cities, with a steadily growing population of 112,735 as of January 2026. During the workday, more than 50,000 employees commute to Hillsboro by car, bicycle, bus, or MAX Light Rail train to work at companies such as Intel, Nike, and Genentech.

In 2025, the City launched an interactive process that engaged community members in shaping Hillsboro's first community flag, reflecting the identity of the community.

To create the design, we:

Hillsboro's first official community flag was publicly unveiled at the 2026 State of the City after receiving 2,900 out of 4,200 total community votes and following its adoption by the Hillsboro City Council.

Hillsboro operates as a Council-Manager form of government. Voters elect the seven-member City Council, including the Mayor and six other City Councilors, to serve a four-year term, with a charter-imposed limit of serving no more than two consecutive terms. The City Council appoints a City Manager to conduct the business of the City. Policy decisions are the responsibility of the Council, while administrative functions are carried out by the City Manager and manager-selected staff.

The Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan is based on input and ideas from more than 5,000 Hillsboro community members for the future of our community, and it includes a vision of what Hillsboro community members want Hillsboro to look like by the year 2035, as well as an action plan for getting us there. To keep the 2035 Plan current and relevant to our changing and growing community, it is updated every five years. The most recent update was completed in 2025.
