Tempe This Week July 20, 2026

For the past two years, Tempe's Real-Time Operations Center (RTOC) has helped officers make faster, more informed decisions during emergencies and critical incidents by providing real-time information when it matters most.

Since opening its doors, the RTOC has assisted with more than 8,600 calls for service, virtually cleared nearly 80 calls and helped recover 26 stolen vehicles. The center also played a critical role in helping officers quickly locate and apprehend the suspect responsible for the freeway shooting at Tempe at the Buttes Resort-one example of how real-time technology can make a difference during rapidly evolving incidents.

In this video, Chief Ken McCoy and RTOC operator Taylor Henan explain how the RTOC works, the safeguards in place to protect privacy, and why it has become such an important tool for the Tempe Police Department and the community we serve.
