Mayor Bowser Invites Community to Celebrate National Night Out With MPD

(Washington, DC) - On Tuesday, August 4, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), residents, and community partners will come together for the 42nd Annual National Night Out (NNO), a nationwide celebration of community-building and public safety.

Each year, on the first Tuesday in August, MPD hosts family-friendly events across all seven police districts, offering food, games, and activities that strengthen connections between officers and the communities they serve. This year's events will feature resources and demonstrations from District and federal partners, including CPR demonstrations from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services and activities from the DC Department of Parks and Recreation.

"Keeping DC safe takes all of us, working together. National Night Out is a chance for residents to meet the officers who serve their block, ask questions, and see firsthand the partnerships that keep our city thriving," said Mayor Muriel Bowser. "Whichever ward you live in, this is your invitation to show up, connect, and help us keep building a safer DC."

Residents attending any of the seven district events can learn about programs aimed at building safer neighborhoods and speak directly to District leadership about local concerns. MPD will also encourage residents and business owners to register their security cameras with CameraConnect DC, which powers MPD's Real Time Crime Center and contributes to the ongoing reduction in violent crime citywide.

"National Night Out gives us a chance to connect with our neighbors in a meaningful way," said Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department. "When we come together, share ideas, and enjoy each other's company, we strengthen the partnerships that keep our communities safe."

MPD and our partners will kick off National Night Out in the Fifth District at 5 pm at Alethia Tanner Park, 227 Harry Thomas Way NE. Each event is free and open to the entire community.
