Repairs Will Briefly Close Oxbow Boat Ramp, Lower Reservoir Levels

Idaho Power will close the boat ramp at Oxbow Reservoir Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 4 p.m. through Wednesday, Sept. 2, for maintenance work on the ramp. The reservoir will be lowered to accommodate this work, which will improve the boat ramp surface and make it usable at lower water levels.

Work is only expected to last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 2, but the drawdown and refill operation will take 24-30 hours. Water levels will drop overnight Sept. 1 into Sept. 2, and the boat launch will be closed all day Sept. 2. The reservoir should be back to its current level by the morning of Thursday, Sept. 3.

Hells Canyon Reservoir elevation and flows below Hells Canyon are expected to operate within normal ranges.

Located 13 miles downstream of Brownlee Dam, Oxbow was completed in 1961. It was the second dam of the Hells Canyon Project and can generate 190 megawatts of electricity, enough to power more than 145,000 homes.
