The Lakewood Cultural Center will open its annual Winter Salon with a public reception on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition offers an ideal place to begin holiday shopping or to find a unique piece of art for your home.
"Salon style" refers to hanging multiple pieces of art closely together in a dense, floor-to-ceiling arrangement rather than spacing them out in a single line. This method began in 17th-century France and later flourished in the grand French salons of the 1800s. Inspired by that vibrant tradition, this year's Winter Salon features a wide range of artistic styles - from traditional to visionary - celebrating Lakewood's creative community.
The Winter Salon runs Nov. 7, 2026, through Jan. 2, 2027, and features a large group exhibition of small, accessibly priced artworks. All pieces are 16 by 20 inches or smaller, priced at $500 or less and available for purchase. Inspired by the vibrant spirit of the French salons of the 1800s, this year's show includes a wide range of artistic styles - from traditional to visionary - celebrating Lakewood's creative community.
The Lakewood Cultural Center encourages local artists to participate. The Winter Salon is open to all artists, and eligible entries include 2D work such as original paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media and photography. All submitted work must be for sale and hand-delivered; shipping is not accepted. The call for entries closes Oct. 22, 2026, and requires a minimal entry fee. Full details and entry information are available at LakewoodCO.gov/Salon.
