Investigation Update: Suspect Arrested Following Multiple Breaking and Entering Incidents

Investigation Update: At about 4:15 PM, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as part on an ongoing joint investigation, detectives assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury), C-11 (Dorchester) and members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Derek Ford, 39, of Dorchester, in the area of Thelma Road. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was wanted on two straight warrants issued out of Dorchester District Court for Two Counts of Breaking and Entering into a Building in the Nighttime for a Felony, and Larceny from a Building. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

The facts and circumstances surrounding the prior incidents are as follows: At about 12:38 PM, on Sunday, December 01, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area of 9 Stoughton Street for a breaking and entering report. The suspect broke into and stole money from an ATM and a cash drawer was targeted.

District C-11 (Dorchester) incidents are as follows:

  • At about 3:47 AM, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to the area of 3 Neponset Avenue for an alarm call and observed that an ATM machine was targeted. Detectives recovered burglarious tools from the scene.
  • At about 7:55 AM, on Sunday, December 8, 2024, officers responded to the area of 55 Hallet Street for an attempted larceny from an ATM machine.
  • At about 10:06 AM, on Saturday, December 28, officers responded to the area of 282 Adams Street for a breaking and entering. The suspect was seen on video breaking into and stealing money from the register.
  • At about 12:30 PM, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, officers took a report for a larceny from the area of 301 Adams Street. Officers were advised that the suspect broke into the cash register, but there was no money stolen.
  • At about 10:06 AM, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, officers responded to the area of 251 Bowdoin Street for a breaking and entering report. Detectives observed on video footage the suspect breaking into and stealing money from the cash register.

Detectives assigned to both districts started a joint investigation, and began to collect and examine multiple video sources. Detectives were able to determine that the same suspect was involved in all six incidents, and they will seek additional criminal complaints.
