Springfield, IL…State Representatives Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) and Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) are hosting a holiday drive to help children in the community. From now until December 20th, new unwrapped toys will be collected at their district office in Springfield. After collections have been received, they will be distributed to families across Sangamon County this holiday season. This holiday drive focuses on the importance of helping those less fortunate.
"Many families are struggling with high gas prices and utility bills and trying to make ends meet these days," said Rosenthal. "If you are fortunate to have a little extra and able to donate, please join us to help bring a smile to a child during the Christmas season with a baby doll, a baseball and glove or even an erector set, Lincoln Logs, or Legos to encourage creativity in a child."
"The holiday season and Christmas day is about giving thanks and bringing people together," said Coffey. "I'm proud to join my colleague in our efforts to help children experience joy and unite people in the community for a common cause. A small act of kindness can have a big impact on children, and this is one way we can teach children and community members the value of giving."
The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation was established in 1991 by the U. S. Marine Corps. The foundation raises funds, purchases toys, educates the public, and handles daily operations. The mission is to provide hope for disadvantaged children during the Christmas holiday.
Last year, the Sangamon County Toys for Tots Holiday Drive supported over eight thousand children in the community.
