Block Party at Potomac Gardens Celebrates the Last Days of Summer

September 16, 2025 11:40 AM

Residents and neighbors of Potomac Gardens came together for a celebration of community on September 13, with the DC Housing Authority's (DCHA) latest Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party. Residents were able to enjoy a variety of good food and participate in family-friendly fun such as dancing to live music, games, and so much more.

Local community members, neighbors, friends, and DCHA staff joined the joyous festivities. Prior to the event, DCHA staff and volunteers distributed free groceries and household supplies to Potomac Gardens residents, and during the block party, free haircuts were available. The party also featured a balloon release, face painter, moon bounces, a mobile video game truck, and a visit from Paw Patrol characters.

The DCHA Rebuilding Our Communities block parties run from May through October. The event series has provided opportunities for residents to connect with their communities and strengthen neighborhood bonds.

In addition to the festive activities, residents were able to engage with representatives from various District organizations who offered resources that can help support individuals in their emotional, physical, or economic journeys.

The service providers offered resources related to education, workforce development, job opportunities, healthcare, and more. The participating organizations included local nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies that are dedicated to uplifting residents of the District.

DCHA is grateful for the service providers who helped make this event possible:
