Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich to Take Senior Status

On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, United States Circuit Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich informed the President of his intention to take senior status upon the confirmation of his successor.

Judge Tymkovich's chambers are located in Denver, Colorado. He is a graduate of Colorado College and the University of Colorado Law School. After law school, Judge Tymkovich served as a law clerk to Justice William H. Erickson of the Colorado Supreme Court. Following his clerkship, Judge Tymkovich worked in private practice in Denver and Washington, DC. From 1991 to 1996, he served as Solicitor General of the State of Colorado before returning to private practice in Denver.

President George W. Bush nominated Judge Tymkovich to a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit that was vacated when Judge John Carbone Porfilio assumed senior status. Judge Tymkovich's nomination was confirmed by the Senate on April 1, 2003. He received his commission that same day.

From 2015 to 2022, Judge Tymkovich served as the twelfth chief judge of the Tenth Circuit and as a member of the Judicial Conference of the United States. Judge Tymkovich has also served as chair of the Judicial Conference Committee on Judicial Resources, chair of the Judicial Conference Committee on Judicial Conduct and Disability, and a judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review.

Judge Tymkovich will continue to hear cases as a senior judge.
