GW Alumna Named Finalist for 2026 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching

Shweta Shah is one of 30 educators selected statewide for her impact in the classroom and leadership in innovative learning.

Shweta Shah has been named a finalist for the 2026 Golden Apple Awardfor Excellence in Teaching. Selected from nearly 600 nominations across Illinois, Shah is one of just 30 educators recognized this year for her meaningful contributions to students and her school community. She teaches fifth and sixth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies at Dewitt Clinton Elementary School.

Known for piloting new initiatives before they are adopted schoolwide, Shah has led efforts in personalized learning and now guides her school's transition to competency-based education. She introduced student-led conferences and flexible assignment models that allow students to take ownership of their learning. Her commitment to inclusive instruction has helped students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds thrive, reinforcing her reputation as an innovative and student-centered educator.
