OLYMPIA - Today Governor Bob Ferguson announced the appointment of Maureen McKeeman to the position of Kitsap County Superior Court Judge. McKeeman's appointment, effective August 2, fills the position that Judge Kevin Hull's resignation will vacate.
McKeeman is a career litigator with over 15 years of experience in civil, criminal and family law. She currently practices estate planning, probate, real property and criminal law as a partner at the law firm of Tolman, Hinson & McKeeman in Poulsbo. She also serves as a judge pro tempore in Bremerton Municipal Court, Bainbridge Island Municipal Court and Kitsap County District Court, and she previously served as a municipal court judge for the City of Poulsbo.
"Maureen McKeeman has a passion for public service and broad legal expertise," Governor Ferguson said. "Her dedication for the Kitsap County community will make her a great addition to the bench."
"I'm honored by Governor Ferguson's appointment," McKeeman said. "I've spent my career in Kitsap County's courts as a defense attorney, prosecutor, civil attorney, and municipal court judge. Each role has shaped how I approach this one. I'm committed to serving the people of this county with fairness, careful judgment, and the respect every person deserves when entering a courtroom."
Earlier in her career, McKeeman spent three years handling a wide range of misdemeanor cases and traffic infraction matters as a prosecuting attorney in Bremerton. She spent two years at the law firm of LaCross & Murphy in Port Orchard, where she represented clients in criminal proceedings in Kitsap County Superior, District and Municipal Courts. She also practiced criminal law as a partner at McKeeman & Miller in Silverdale, where she represented clients in all phases of criminal litigation. In her roles in behavioral courts, she served as defense counsel and supported rehabilitation-focused outcomes.
Outside the courtroom, McKeeman volunteers at the Office of Military and Veteran Legal Assistance and teaches estate planning classes with Poulsbo Parks and Recreation. She also served for five years on the board of trustees at West Sound Academy.
McKeeman also enjoys exploring our corner of the Pacific Northwest on foot, on a bike or in a kayak. She is an avid reader, travels whenever she can and the rest of her time belongs to her family and her dog.
McKeeman earned her bachelor's degree from Willamette University and her law degree from Seattle University School of Law.
