This young, loving dog needs a special home

Silvy is an extraordinary dog searching for a very special home. This three-year-old German Shepherd mix was rescued from the Riverside Animal Shelter through our Mission for Home rescue program. From the moment she arrived, Silvy's cheerful and easygoing nature was evident-she is content simply to sit at our feet and enjoy human companionship.

During her spay surgery, complications arose under anesthesia. After consulting with a cardiologist, we received the difficult diagnosis that Silvy has Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), a progressive heart disease characterized by an enlargement of the heart chambers and weakened cardiac muscle function. While there is no cure for DCM, many dogs with this condition can live comfortably for extended periods when given appropriate medication and veterinary care.

Despite her diagnosis, Silvy embodies resilience and spirit. She behaves as if nothing is wrong with her heart and is full of life. Although she will gradually become weaker and sadly have a shorter life expectancy than most dogs, we believe she deserves to experience a loving home for as long as possible.

We are seeking a gentle, patient home for Silvy - possibly a retired couple or a family without other dogs-who will foster Silvy and provide a calm environment where she can live happily however long she has. Because she cannot handle long walks or vigorous play with other dogs, a relaxed household would be ideal and someone who will enjoy the little things in life along with our dear Silvy. Our nonprofit DAWG has committed to continuing her medical care, so her new family will not have to worry about veterinary expenses.

If you feel you might have space in your heart and home for a dog who needs special care and companionship, please contact us to meet Silvy. Her loyalty, unconditional love and gratitude will be worth the extra care her heart requires-guaranteed!
