Beginningat5:30a.m.,onFriday, May 22, 2026, crews with KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM),will begin construction activities at the Grant Road underpass at the Union Pacific Railroad(UPRR).This work will require a full closure of Grant Road, between the I-10westbound Frontage Road and Flowing Wells Road.ThewestboundI-10 Frontage Road, south of Grant Road, will not allow right turns onto Grant Road. Eastbound Grant Road at the I-10 underpass will be restricted to one left turn lane to access westbound I-10.
The traveling public is advised to use detour routes on roads more suited for high volume traffic, including the I-10 Frontage Road, Miracle Mile, Oracle Road, and Speedway Boulevard. Emergency vehicle and sidewalk access will be maintained throughout the duration of the closure in the project area. The closure is anticipated to be in place through early August 2026.
This voter-approved Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) project aims to reduce traffic congestion on Grant Road between Fairview Avenue and the eastbound I-10 frontage road. Additionally, project work includes updates to traffic signals and crosswalks, extends sidewalks within the project limits, and provides ADA enhancements and drainage upgrades, while maintaining the existing walls.
We ask the community to please use caution when approaching a work zone; reduce your speed, watch for roadwork signs and crews working, leave extra space between you and the vehicle ahead, and avoid distractions.
