Construction Activity Prompts Traffic Shift on SR 33 in Union County

Motorists traveling on Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) in Union County should be aware of upcoming road construction activities that will have an impact on traffic.

Beginning today, September 8, at approximately 9am, a traffic shift will take place on Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) from near Williams Road to near Baker Lane. This shift will allow the contractor to complete construction of the box culvert near Raccoon Valley Road.

Intermittent temporary stoppages will occur as needed, but Maynardville Highway (State Route 33) will remain open during these construction activities.

This traffic shift is expected to be completed by 3pm.

You can learn more about this project here: https://www.tn.gov/tdot/projects/projects-region-1/state-route-33.html.

This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and "Know Before You Go!" by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. The TDOT SmartWay system provides the latest updates for road construction activity. Travelers can also call 511 for travel information.
