On Wednesday, September 3, Mayor Michael O'Connor delivered the 2025 State of the City Address at the new Frederick Police Department Headquarters, highlighting the City's accomplishments over the past year and outlining priorities for the future.
Mayor O'Connor emphasized that "the state of the City of Frederick is strong," citing ongoing investments in public safety, infrastructure, economic development, and equity. He also issued a clear call to action: the city must move with urgency and govern with compassion to meet the moment.
The address featured updates from City staff on key achievements, including the groundbreaking of the Downtown Hotel and Conference Center, the return of Major League-affiliated baseball, expansion of the Art in City Hall program, sustainability efforts, Safe Streets initiatives, and continued investments in the Frederick Police Department.
Looking ahead, Mayor O'Connor outlined upcoming projects and initiatives for people to look forward to in the upcoming months such as the Westside Regional Park Community Meeting, Downtown Hotel construction, a joint Housing Needs Assessment with Frederick County, a proposed local childcare tax credit, the Frederick Youth Center, and the launch of the Partners for Accessible Care and Treatment (PACT) Taskforce, among others.
"People are choosing to live here because they feel safe. Because the schools are strong. Because our parks are beautiful and accessible. Because our downtown is vibrant and welcoming. Because our neighborhoods are livable, our workforce is talented, and our economy is full of possibility," said Mayor O'Connor.
