The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's Administrative Council has extended the term of Secretary General Ahmed Nadeem for another three years.
The announcement was made during the ABU General Assembly in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Nadeem was initially appointed on November 24, 2022, and assumed office on April 1, 2023.
Nadeem is an experienced electronic and ICT engineer with over 25 years of experience in broadcasting and telecommunications. He joined the ABU in 2008 as Head of Studio Technology and Training at the ABU Technology Department and became Director of ABU Technology in 2018.
Before joining the ABU, he worked as a project engineer at LSV Enterprises in Singapore (2007-2008) and as Chief Engineer at Television Maldives (1996-2007), the public broadcaster in the Maldives.
In addition to Nadeem's extension, several other matters were discussed, including proposed changes to the financial year period and the selection of a new audit firm. These changes have been communicated to the members.
The GA was also informed of new membership with ABU now having 226 members from 66 countries.
