PT TIMAH Tbk Provides Fishing Gear Assistance to Strengthen the Productivity of Traditional Fishermen in Kundur Village

KUNDUR -- PT TIMAH Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the welfare of coastal communities, particularly traditional fishermen, by providing fishing gear assistance to the Ratu Laut Teluk Dalam Joint Business Group (KUB) in Kundur Village.

The Secretary of KUB Ratu Laut Teluk Dalam, Dedi, stated that the fishermen's group has been established for a long time and that all of its members are traditional fishermen.

"Our group has been around for quite some time and consists of 13 members. We have always gone to sea using traditional methods, with small boats and engines," Dedi said.

He explained that the assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk will be used to purchase fishing gear in the form of shrimp nets, which are the primary tools used by local fishermen.

"This is the first year we have received assistance from PT TIMAH Tbk. The support will be used to purchase fishing gear, specifically shrimp nets, because most fishermen here rely on shrimp nets," he explained.

According to Dedi, many of the fishermen's nets are currently damaged and no longer suitable for use. However, limited economic conditions have made it difficult to replace the equipment.

"The catch often isn't sufficient to buy new nets because fishing gear is more expensive than the value of the catch, while fishermen's income is needed to meet daily household needs," he said.

The shrimp nets will be distributed to all group members, with each fisherman receiving seven units to support their fishing activities.

"These nets will be distributed to all group members. We hope the catch will increase because the nets are new. With new nets, the results should certainly be more optimal," Dedi added.

He also expressed his appreciation for PT TIMAH Tbk's concern for traditional fishermen and hoped that the support would continue through synergy and sustainable fishermen empowerment programs.

"We hope there will be continued support for fishermen's groups in the future, not only in the form of fishing gear assistance but also through other empowerment programs," he said.

Previously, PT TIMAH Tbk has consistently supported the empowerment of coastal community groups, including fishermen. This support includes providing fishing gear assistance, aid for fishermen who experience maritime accidents, and social security coverage for fishermen through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. (*)
