Storm Alert – Winter Storm Hernando – February 23, 2026

Winter Storm Hernando, a dangerous "bomb cyclone" with impacts similar to a winter hurricane, is moving north along the East Coast, strengthening as it tracks into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The storm is expected to affect over 70 million people, with wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph in some areas.

Over half a million power customers have already lost power, with the biggest outages in Massachusetts and New Jersey. Governors across the region have declared states of emergency, reducing restrictions on carriers responding to the outage. Due to its size, intensity, and population exposure, Hernando is being described as one of the most impactful East Coast winter storms in recent years.

Most fuel carriers are off the road in impacted markets due to strong winds and hazardous road conditions. Where deliveries are possible, it's critical that all sites ensure fuel tanks and ingress/egress are cleared of snow and ice to enable a fuel truck to access and find the fuel fill points.

Mansfield is moving to Code Orange, requesting a 48-hour delivery notice for new orders, in the following states: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Please note that in some areas with lighter storm impacts, deliveries may be possible within a shorter delivery window. Conversely, areas hit hardest by the storm may not be safely accessible even with a 48-hour notice period.
