Statement from the Prime Minister following the drone and missile attacks against Kyiv

News story | Date: 24/05/2026 | Office of the Prime Minister

Norway condemns Russia's massive drone and missile attacks against Kyiv overnight. In the morning hours, I have been in contact with President Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Svyrydenko to convey our support. This attack is of a scale and character we have not seen before, and once again civilians and civilian infrastructure have been struck.

Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its repeated attacks on civilian infrastructure constitute serious violations of international law and have been condemned by a large majority of UN member states, including Norway. Through attacks such as these, Russia demonstrates a complete absence of willingness to seek a path to peace and instead chooses to escalate.

Russia's brutal attacks underscore the importance of continuing our support to Ukraine's legitimate right to self-defence with full force.
