Gilbert Office of Economic Development Earns Reaccreditation by International Economic Development Council

The Town of Gilbert has once again been recognized by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) as an Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO). Gilbert became the first Arizona organization to earn this distinction and has successfully maintained its accreditation since 2013.

"Town of Gilbert displays the professionalism, commitment, and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor," said IEDC President and CEO Nathan Ohle.

The AEDO program assesses economic development organizations through a peer review process based on professional standards. Gilbert was praised for its professionalism, strategic focus, clear mission, measurable outcomes, innovation, and accountability. The review team highlighted Gilbert's leadership, staff expertise, and disciplined planning as exemplary.

Additionally, Gilbert was recognized for adapting to growth, legislative changes, and evolving community needs, expanding into tourism, redevelopment, and small business support. Transparent dashboards and strong community engagement further establish Gilbert as a leader in modern economic development.

"Economic development is about making sure our residents have access to good jobs, our small businesses can grow, and families feel secure about their future here," said Mayor Scott Anderson. "This accreditation demonstrates that we're doing work the right way and providing a better quality of life and experience for businesses, residents and visitors." he added.

Achieving AEDO reaccreditation signals to the community that Gilbert operates with excellence and professionalism, assuring stakeholders that their trust is well placed. AEDO status must be renewed every three years through documentation, review, and periodic onsite evaluations.

In 2025, IEDC also honored Gilbert Economic Development Director Dan Henderson with the Jeffrey A. Finkle Organizational Leadership Award for exceptional leadership and service. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate sustained integrity, vision, and commitment while leading an economic development organization.

For nearly two decades, Henderson has advanced Gilbert's economic growth through business attraction, support for local companies, reinvestment in economic centers such as the Heritage District and Northwest Gilbert, and expanded tourism initiatives that increase visitor spending. IEDC is the world's largest membership association for economic and community development professionals, with more than 5,000 members worldwide.
