The Greensboro Public Library will host New York Times bestselling author Cristina Henriquez from 7-8:30 pm on Wednesday, May 28 at the Van Dyke Performance Space in the Cultural Arts Center, 200 N. Davie St. Henriquez will discuss her latest novel, The Great Divide, and her own sense of a divided identity.
An historical novel, The Great Divide is a powerful story about the construction of the Panama Canal, casting light on the unsung people who lived, loved, and labored there. Set in the early 1900s, the book provides a view of the everyday people connected to a world-changing engineering feat.
Growing up half-American, half-Panamanian, the author will also discuss her own experience of "the divide within," about how her sense of identity formed and continually reshaped over her life. Henriquez will also share insights on her work exploring culture, identity, community, and belonging. She will be in conversation with Jodie Stanley, City of Greensboro's International Support and Language Access Coordinator.
This program is sponsored by Greensboro Public Library and the Greensboro Public Library Foundation. Community partners include Greensboro Bound and Creative Greensboro.
