Important Notice: Yard Waste Cart Changes & New Requirements

In September 2025, a Municipal Code Ordinance amendment was approved by the City Commission, outlining the containerization of yard waste. This means that no green or blue Waste Management-issued carts may be used for yard waste. Residents who own acceptable yard waste containers, please continue to use them. If you need to purchase containers, we recommend the black or gray 40-gallon open-top cans or paper yard waste bags. Please start transitioning to the recommended containers, as Waste Management will resume cart collection after the New Year. All of this information is also available on the City of Key West Utilities website page.

The Municipal Code states the following:

ARTICLE II. - Collection and Disposal;

Sec. 58-31. - Container and receptacle requirements.

(e)Containers for yard waste are not provided as part of annual services. Provided garbage and recycling containers shall not be used for yard waste containerization.

The Utilities Department is happy to answer any concerns from the community. Please call 305-809-3906 or email the Utilities Department for help.
