FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 22, 2026 District Attorney, Sam Bregman's recent letter further vilifies our ICE agents and their work Albuquerque, NM - District Attorney from New Mexico's Second Judicial District and gubernatorial candidate Sam Bregman has officially partaken in Democrats' smear campaign against ICE officials with a recent letter vilifying their work. This letter, addressed to a district field office director for ICE, appears to imply that ICE agents intend to falsely imprison New Mexicans as they do their operations in New Mexico. "This letter issued by Sam Bregman is anti-law enforcement fear-mongering at its finest," said Chairwoman Barela. "Bregman is no different than any other radical far-left Democrat who demonizes the ICE agents who risk their lives so they can remove the worst criminals in our country. He masquerades as a moderate but there's nothing moderate about the war on ICE that Democrats like Sam Bregman are hellbent on continuing." Bregman is not the only New Mexico Democrat who has fanned the flames of anti-ICE rhetoric, just the latest. Melanie Stansbury, Gabe Vazquez, and nearly everyone from New Mexico's congressional delegation has called for ICE to be defunded and for Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to be impeached. Gabe Vazquez actually took it a step further and condemned a project by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that would build more than 100 miles of a border barrier system in southern New Mexico that would keep illegal immigrants from entering our state. Throughout the first year of President Trump's second term in the White House Democrats have proven that their only real policy objective is to resist this Administration. They will condemn anything the Trump Administration does no matter how many thousands - or millions - of people benefit as a result. If this rhetoric does not stop it will create long-term irreversible damage to the public trust of our law enforcement agencies. We are tired of watching violent criminals take priority over law-abiding New Mexicans as Democrats cheer. It's high time New Mexicans get leaders who prioritize safety and actually make our state a place where families want to be. ### |
