Mayor Ganim and the City of Bridgeport Highlight Key Detail's Mural of the Year, 'The Tailor'

Bridgeport, CT- The City of Bridgeport is proud to announce that renowned artist Key Detail has been awarded the prestigious "Mural of the Year" award by the 2024 National Mural Awards for his outstanding contributions to the city's urban landscape. The announcement was made today at a press conference hosted by Mayor Ganim, celebrating Key Detail's artistic achievements and his impact on the cultural vibrancy of Bridgeport through his mural, "The Tailor." The mural pays homage to Bridgeport's historical Singer Sewing Factory and the role Bridgeport played in the sewing industry.

During the press conference, Mayor Ganim expressed his gratitude for Key Detail's contribution to the community. "We not only want to thank and honor Key Detail, but we thank him for honoring the City with his artwork in such a positive way," Mayor Ganim stated. "With 40 murals throughout the City, it's a program and process of beautification and embracing the arts."

The Mural of the Year award recognizes artists whose work has significantly impacted the community by enhancing public spaces and promoting cultural engagement. Key Detail's winning mural, located at 466 Lafayette Street., at the corner of Railroad Avenue in Bridgeport, captures the spirit of the City with its dynamic composition and vibrant themes.

Key Detail commented, "I want to say thank you for the opportunity to paint this mural and to everyone involved for allowing me to express freely. It's an honor to receive this recognition."

The City of Bridgeport continues to support and promote the arts through various initiatives, including public art programs and community-based events. In collaboration with Bridgeport Downtown Special Services District (DSSD), Bridgeport has been able to commission artists to create murals throughout the City as a part of the City's public art initiative. Bridgeport has invested $350,000 into public art this year via the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars; $600,000 was invested throughout 2022 and 2023 with 24 commissions artist. The success of these programs highlights the city's commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive cultural environment.
