Spend a day on the water with the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program and Door County Adventure Center (DCAC).
BOW is offering "Waves, Caves, and a Shipwreck", a day outing with a team of patient instructors who will lead kayaking lessons covering basic paddle strokes and safety, in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, Aug. 30.
Participants will set off to explore the waters of Whitefish Bay, view the Australasia shipwreck of 1886 and paddle the shore along Cave Point County Park to see the dolomite/limestone underwater caves. Cultural and natural history of the area, along with storytelling, will be woven into the excursion.
This is a day trip suitable for beginners. Participants will paddle in tandem sit-on-top kayaks. Total time on the water will be 4 hours. There will be breaks for lunch and time to explore on land.
There are 14 spots available. A complete brochure is on the program's event events page. The $139 registration fee includes use of all equipment - kayak, paddle, and personal flotation vest. A shuttle from DCAC to the boat launch and back will be provided. Snacks will be provided, but participants are responsible for bring their own lunch. A complete list of suggesting clothing and other items will be sent upon registration.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshops focus on learning outdoor skills. Workshop activities are balanced between hunting and shooting, fishing and boating, and non-consumptive activities like camping and canoeing. Workshops are designed primarily for women and are learning opportunities for anyone 18 years and older. Participants range in age from 18-80+. BOW is a non-profit, outreach education program at UWSP and supported by the WI DNR.
