On April 23, 2026, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with outgoing Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China Majintha Joseph Priye Jayesinghe.
Liu Jinsong said that the talks and meetings between President Xi Jinping and Sri Lankan leaders in 2025 have injected strong impetus into the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. China is willing to engage in mutual support with Sri Lanka, work hand in hand on their respective paths to modernization, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, tourism and education. It is hoped that the ambassador will continue to care for and support the cause of China-Sri Lanka friendship after leaving his post.
Majintha Joseph Priye Jayesinghe said that Sri Lanka and China enjoy profound friendship, and that Sri Lanka firmly adheres to the one-China principle and highly appreciates the important role played by China in safeguarding world peace and development. Sri Lanka is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, deepen people-to-people bonds, and push for new progress in building a Sri Lanka-China community with a shared future.
