Presentation planned on GPS use for recreation

A free in-person and virtual presentation will discuss how to use a GPS receiver for navigation and safer backcountry travel.

Nelson Crone uses a GPS to plan a trip in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Nelson Crone, farm director at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center in Palmer, will provide a basic overview of GPS use for navigation, plus tips and best practices for recreational travel in Alaska. Crone has a background in geographic information systems and is an avid outdoorsman.

The presentation will be from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Participants can attend in person in Room 208 of Kerttula Hall at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center, 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, Palmer, or via Zoom.
