Freedom of Expression Policy Reminder

Freedom of Expression Policy Reminder

University Communications Friday January 30, 2026

As another new semester begins, please take a moment to review the University System of Georgia's Freedom of Expression Policy, which Georgia College & State University upholds for all students, faculty and staff. This policy affirms the rights of all members of the GCSU community to engage in lawful expression, protest and dialogue. These activities are an important part of the educational experience and the exchange of ideas that define our campus community.

At the same time, it is important to maintain clarity around academic expectations. If students choose to participate in out-of-classroom demonstrations during scheduled class time, their absences should be treated in accordance with standard attendance policies.

Maintaining academic commitments ensures consistency for all students and supports the integrity of our courses.

Thank you for your professionalism and for the thoughtful way you participate in moments of learning both inside and outside the classroom.
