UMGC Connects Learners to Careers in Cybersecurity and Homeland Security

Jimmy Robertson and Jesse Varsalone

Aspiring cybersecurity and homeland security professionals gathered at Fort Meade's McGill Training Center on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, for "Spotlight on Security," a career development event designed to connect learners with employers and offer firsthand experience and personalized guidance. Hosted by University of Maryland Global Campus, the event brought together employers such as the National Security Agency, Leidos, AWS, Nyla Technology Solutions, IntelligentWaves, CACI and Peraton, alongside UMGC career advisors and education coordinators. In addition to an ethical hacking demonstration by Jimmy Robertson and Jesse Varsalone, faculty in UMGC's School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology, the event featured an employer panel discussion focused on industry trends and hiring needs. Attendees received tailored support on job search strategies, résumé building, and industry qualifications-all aimed at helping them advance their education, launch meaningful careers, and contribute to protecting their communities.
