City Submits Clinton St. Proposal

City Submits Clinton Street Revitalization Proposal to New York State Following Community Input, Planning Process

Local Planning Committee to Hold Community Celebration Wednesday, Present Final Recommendations

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)-Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Tuesday announced the City's Local Planning Committee (LPC) for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) has submitted its proposal for Clinton Street to New York State following a months-long planning and community input process.

The LPC will hold a community celebration Wednesday, December 17 at 5:30pm at the First Ward Senior Center to present the final recommendations.

Mayor Kraham said: "This is an exciting step as we get closer to transforming Clinton Street and tapping into its potential. Thanks to all who served on the Local Planning Committee for investing so much time and effort into the future of the Clinton Street corridor these last several months and to all the community members who contributed with public input. I encourage residents to attend this week's public meeting and community celebration, where the LPC will present their final recommendations."

The LPC unanimously advanced a slate of 22 projects requesting just over $13 million in DRI grant funding to New York State for review. The State will now select up to $10 million of projects from the list for funding, with awards expected to be announced in the spring.

The funding comes from the City of Binghamton's $10 million DRI award from New York State to revitalize the Clinton Street Neighborhood Business District.

Starting in May of this year, the LPC hosted six meetings, two public workshops, several pop-up and online feedback opportunities, and Q&A sessions with project sponsors, ensuring award funding would be allocated through a community-driven process.

The committee received 55 project proposals totaling nearly $119 million in response to its public call for projects.

The LPC worked to evaluate project proposals, refine budgets and incorporate public feedback into its final recommendation to New York State.

Appointed by New York State, the LPC includes residents, small business owners, community leaders and government officials.
