State Police are investigating a fatal crash on State Route 17 in...

On October 21, 2024 at approximately 11:54 a.m., state troopers from the Wurtsboro barracks responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision on State Route 17 west in the town of Mamakating.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Dodge was traveling west bound on State Route 17 near exit 12 when it struck a 2010 Peterbilt tractor trailer in the rear traveling in the same direction. The operator identified as Joseph Wallace, age 29, of Woodbourne, NY and front seat passenger Sharon Ackerman McGriff, age 38, of Monticello, NY were both removed from the vehicle. EMS performed life saving measures, but both victims ultimately succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. An additional passenger identified as Edward McGriff, age 34, of Monticello, NY was air lifted to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries but is in stable condition.
