Oct 01, 2025 New B.A. in Spanish-English Translation and Interpretation coming fall 2026

CSU Channel Islands will launch a groundbreaking Bachelor of Arts in Spanish-English Translation & Interpretation in Fall 2026, with applications opening October 1. This new program - the first of its kind in the CSU system - prepares students to meet the demand for professional translators and interpreters, combining practical training with the latest industry technologies to ensure graduates are ready for today's language services market.

The curriculum blends hands-on practice and real-world projects with training in the tools shaping the profession. Students will learn to work with computer-assisted translation platforms, machine translation post-editing, and AI technologies, while also focusing on the human side of the work: live interpreting, culturally responsive communication, and creative translation tasks such as subtitling, localization, and transcreation.

To maximize flexibility, all upper-division courses will be offered fully online. Coursework includes asynchronous courses as well as live Zoom classes condensed into two afternoons per week (3:00-7:30 p.m.), a format designed to support students balancing academic, professional, and family responsibilities.
