College Housing Assistance Program applications available

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation is accepting applications for the College Housing Assistance Program for the 2026 fall semester until Aug. 7.

The College Housing Assistance Program is designed to assist low-income Native American students to secure safe and affordable housing while seeking a first-time bachelor's degree.

Participants must maintain full-time status at an accredited institute of higher education.

The College Housing Assistance Program will provide students up to $1,000 per semester for housing costs only.

Eligibility includes the following:

  • Applicant must be a member of a federally recognized tribe. Priority will be given to Cherokee Nation citizens.
  • Applicant must be a resident of the Cherokee Nation.
  • Applicant must meet all eligibility requirements for the College Housing Assistance Program including NAHASDA guidelines.
  • Applicant must be a full-time student and be in good standing with the educational institution.
  • Assistance is limited to eight semesters.
  • Other eligibility requirements may apply according to the College Housing Assistance Program policy.

Priority is given to students who were assisted the previous semester with College Housing Assistance Program funding.
