The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that a milling and resurfacing project will be performed on Route 72 and I-84 in Plainville, New Britain and Waterbury. This project is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, April 1 and be completed on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The project 0170-3785 consists of milling and resurfacing a 6.2-mile segment of Route 72 north/southbound in Plainville and New Britain from Mile Point .11 to Mile Point 6.37 and a 3.24 -mile segment of Interstate I-84 east/westbound in Waterbury from Mile Point 33.71 to Mile Point 36.95.
CTDOT Project No. 0170-3785 was awarded to Waters Construction Co., Inc at a cost of $11,635,910.30 on January 28, 2026, and is scheduled to be completed October 29, 2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District 1 in Rocky Hill.
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
Motorists can expect lane closures of Interstate 72 north/southbound in Plainville and New Britain from Mile Point .11 to Mile Point 6.37 and Interstate I-84 east/westbound in Waterbury from Mile Point 33.71 to Mile Point 36.95. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone. The work schedule for this project is from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday to Saturday.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
