WASHINGTON - The American Property Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA) issued the following statement commending passage of the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Reauthorization Act of 2026 (S. 3923). The following statement may be attributed to Sam Whitfield, APCIA's senior vice president of federal government relations and political engagement:
"APCIA applauds the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation for passing the Weather Research and Forecasting Innovation Reauthorization Act of 2026. By strengthening weather modeling, advancing data collection, and improving use of forecasting information across multiple hazards, this legislation will help communities, businesses, and insurers better anticipate risk, protect lives and property, and reduce costly losses before disasters strike. This is a critical bipartisan step that strengthens our nation's weather research and forecasting capabilities and helps ensure communities, businesses, and emergency responders have the timely accurate information they need to stay safe. APCIA will continue working with policymakers to strengthen forecasting tools that protect lives, property, and economic stability."
