On June 3, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov met with John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, in Tashkent.
It was noted that the visit of the Hong Kong Chief Executive to Uzbekistan would contribute to further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China, while also bringing new momentum to the development of ties between Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.
The parties discussed promising areas of cooperation in investment, finance, digitalization, artificial intelligence, transport, and logistics.
It was emphasized that Hong Kong's experience and potential as a leading international financial and business center can play an important role in modernizing Uzbekistan's economy and implementing advanced projects.
The sides also exchanged views on enhancing interregional partnership, expanding direct contacts between business communities, and promoting joint initiatives.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged verbal notes expressing their intention to conclude an intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of a mutual visa-free regime. It was noted that this step will create additional opportunities for citizens and contribute to greater people-to-people exchanges and cooperation.
