Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas Yan Jiarong Attends Trade Diversification Forum

On 24 April 2026, Her Excellency Yan Jiarong, Chinese Ambassador to The Bahamas, attended the Trade Diversification Forum jointly hosted by the Office of the Prime Minister and the Bahamas Trade Commission. The ambassador held a lively dialogue session with Trade Commissioner Ian Cargill.

Ambassador Yan highlighted the opportunities provided by china's mega domestic market and the supply advantage of a comprehensive and well-coordinated industrial system. She said that as China continues to advance high-level opening-up, it will create significant development opportunities for countries around the world, including The Bahamas. She emphasized that the two sides can further explore cooperation in areas such as green trade and tourism, thereby promoting steady and sustained growth in bilateral relations.

At the end of the dialogue session, when she was asked what are the gifts she most wants to bring back to china, the ambassador shared her stories of visiting the straw markets in Nassau and George town of Exuma, stating with certainty that she liked Bahamian rum and handicrafts.

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Philip Davis stated that trade and diplomacy are vital tools for expanding The Bahamas' external economic opportunities. He highlighted that the Bahamas Trade Commission is advancing a trade diversification strategy aimed at better connecting local entrepreneurs with international opportunities.
