Motorists traveling on the Walt Whitman Bridge this Saturday, April 18, should expect a modified lane configuration to accommodate scheduled maintenance work.
Three lanes will remain open in each direction. The fourth lane eastbound to New Jersey will be closed to provide crews with space for staging, equipment, and safe access to work areas.
Crews will be performing work both below the bridge and at the roadway level. This includes installing steel plates and preparing surfaces for upcoming painting work near the New Jersey tower. Motorists should expect to see equipment and workers in the closed lane as this work takes place. At times, work may occur below the bridge or outside the immediate line of sight, even while the lane closure remains in place.
While major impacts are not anticipated, drivers are encouraged to follow posted speed limits, allow extra travel time, and remain alert when traveling through the work zone.
