The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, along with the other heads of state and government of the European Union participating in the informal meeting convened in Copenhagen (Denmark)
European leaders held a strategic debate to make further progress on the European Defence Preparedness White Paper 2030, based on the Roadmap prepared by the European Commission, which will set out the milestones for strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy.
In the debates, Pedro Sánchez expressed Spain's solidarity with the countries affected by the recent Russian incursions in Eastern Europe, recalling that Spain maintains a military presence and equipment in four countries in the region, and takes part in NATO's Eastern Sentry operation in support of Poland.
He also advocated strengthening European defence and security capabilities and the European defence industry, stressing the importance of advancing towards a strategic autonomy that reduces external dependencies.
Last, the president emphasised the need to incorporate a 360º vision of European security, which reinforces the Eastern flank without neglecting the North or the South, allowing the continent to prepare itself for all types of threats.
