In 2024 the output of enterprises in the sector generated nearly 24% of the value of Bulgarian exports," she underlined
The importance of energy-intensive industries for the Bulgarian economy is considerable. They account for around 5% of gross value added (GVA) at national level and more than 15% of value in the industrial sector. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Nevena Lazarova, who opened a round table on the theme "Roadmap for Decarbonisation of Energy-Intensive Industry", organised by the Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (BFIEC).
According to her, in 2024 the production of these enterprises generated approximately 24% of the value of national exports, while the sector employs more than 27,000 people.
In the context of growing global challenges, including high energy prices and the need for sustainable development, Lazarova stressed the necessity of technological transformation, large-scale investment, and more efficient use of resources in industrial production.
Deputy Minister Lazarova emphasised that the Ministry of Economy and Industry actively supports the efforts of Bulgarian enterprises to secure stable and sustainable energy sources, as a key factor in strengthening their competitiveness in the context of the accelerated green and digital transition.
"In 2025 we designated industry as a national priority sector and launched the development of the National Industrial Strategy 2025-2030," stated the Deputy Minister of Economy.
She outlined the main priorities of the forthcoming strategy, which include improving the regulatory environment, accelerating the green and digital transition, and building modern industrial infrastructure.
The round table brought together representatives of institutions, industrial associations, business organisations, and experts, who discussed the prospects for the development of Bulgaria's energy-intensive industry.
