PHOTOS: Sen. Schiff and Speaker Emerita Pelosi Highlight Impact of Trump Administration’s $600 Million Cuts to Health Care Grants in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA - Yesterday, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.-11) heard firsthand about the impacts of the Trump administration's effort to terminate $600 million in public health grants for California and other Democratically led states at a roundtable at the SF LGBT Center in San Francisco. The recent termination of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grant funding disproportionately impacts those in the LGBTQ community, cutting essential public health infrastructure including testing and treatment for HIV.

The visit came as yesterday, Schiff was joined by 10 Democratic colleagues from targeted states and Democratic Committee leadership in demanding the administration immediately reverse course on their reckless cuts to critical public health funding.

"The Trump administration's $600 million termination of public health grants will devastate California health care providers and efforts to surveil and prevent the progress of diseases, which we need to keep our communities safe," said Senator Adam Schiff. "Thesepolitically-motivated cuts not only target California - they threaten our entire public health infrastructure, particularly in preventing and treating HIV. The safety and health of our communities should not and cannot be contingent on political whims."

"The Trump Administration's attempt to rip away more than $600 million in public health funding is a reckless, politically motivated assault on the health and safety of our communities," said Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. "These grants are the backbone of HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and treatment and cutting them puts lives at risk. Democrats will fight to stop these dangerous cuts and to defend the public health investments that protect families in California and across the nation."
