The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) is proud to support the reintroduction of the Literacy in Future Technologies (LIFT) Artificial Intelligence Act by Representatives Tom Kean, Jr. (NJ-07) and Gabe Amo (RI-01). This bipartisan legislation aims to improve artificial intelligence (AI) literacy for K-12 students by supporting curriculum development, professional learning for educators, and hands-on AI learning tools.

SIIA's full statement:

"The Software & Information Industry Association is proud to support the LIFT AI Act. This bipartisan legislation will help to ensure that the United States prioritizes AI literacy for K-12 educators and students, laying the groundwork for the workforce of tomorrow. By empowering institutions of higher education and nonprofits to build curricula and professional development resources, LIFT AI also strengthens the engine of public-private collaboration essential for continued American leadership in science and technology. SIIA applauds Representatives Amo and Kean's vision on this important initiative to ensure our students are prepared for an AI-driven future."

The LIFT AI Act would:

  • Support a grant program within NSF for developing and evaluating K-12 AI literacy curricula.

  • Provide professional learning opportunities to help educators and school leaders build AI literacy and proficiency.

  • Promote the creation of hands-on learning tools and the integration of AI literacy into existing curricula.

This bill is endorsed by the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
