Introducing the Fortus FDC Upgrade for the F900 Printer

Extended print times between model material replenishment is a common desire expressed by F900 users. This makes sense, given the F900's large build volume, which accommodates bigger parts that take longer to build. Reloading material less frequently would reduce labor, minimize interruptions, and produce parts faster. The new Fortus FDC™ system addresses this wish by providing a larger material capacity - up to 500 cubic inches (8,194 cubic centimeters) - enabled by space for two 250 cubic inch spools. To put it in perspective, that's a 172% increase over the F900's typical capacity of 184 cubic inches (3,015 cubic centimeters). This upgrade is available for ULTEM™ 9085 resin natural and black, and FDM Nylon 12CF. Plans to include additional materials may follow based on customer input.

Along with the increased material supply, the Fortus FDC cabinet provides another vital benefit: material drying. Thermoplastics absorb moisture, some more than others, and excess moisture degrades print quality. The new material cabinet comes equipped with an integral dryer to maintain optimal material dryness levels for the duration of the print cycle. The results are parts free from moisture-related defects such as air bubbles, inconsistent surface quality, and poor interlayer adhesion.

Available as an option for new and existing F900 printers, the Fortus FDC material expansion cabinet gives manufacturers more flexibility and increased quality with their F900 operations. More material volume means longer uninterrupted run time for larger parts, while onboard material drying provides added insurance against moisture-related quality issues, resulting in better parts.
