Special Election April 29 – State Representative District 78

An election has been called to fill the State Representative District 78 vacancy. The election will be held on April 29, 2025. The timeline for this election is compressed due to the State Legislature being in session.

Candidate Filing

Candidate filing is with the Iowa Secretary of State's office. The candidate filing deadline is 5 p.m. April 15. The candidate list will be posted on the Linn County Elections website on April 16 after receiving the certified candidate list from the Secretary of State's office.

Absentee Voting by Mail

The Linn County Auditor's Office is now accepting absentee ballot requests until the deadline of 5 p.m. April 15. Absentee ballots will be mailed to requestors as soon as ballots are available. Mail absentee ballots must be in the Linn County Auditor's Office, or in the drop box outside the Linn County Public Service Center, by close of polls at 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Absentee Voting In-Person

Beginning Monday, April 21, individuals may vote in person at Election Services in the Auditor's Office. The office is located in the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. In-person absentee voting will also be available Saturday, April 26 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Election Services.

Election Day

Election Day voting will be held Tuesday, April 29 from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Please use the Elections Lookup tool to confirm your polling location.
